Signs That It's Time To Replace Your Old AC

Signs That It's Time To Replace Your Old ACNow that summer is here, and only seems to be getting hotter as the days go on, your home's air conditioning system is likely getting the workout of its life. If you are like most homeowner, you have probably been running your system almost nonstop over the past couple of months, and likely will be for the foreseeable future as well until things finally start to cool down again later in the fall. This means that, for the time being, your air conditioning system isn't going to be getting any breaks in the immediate future, and year after year, that can really take its toll. Like all things, there is going to come a time when repairs are no longer sufficient in order to keep your home's AC working like you need it to, and replacement is going to become the necessary option. Determining when that time has come isn't always easy, however. To help you in that effort, our team of skilled Atlanta air conditioning contractors have taken the time to put together this short list highlighting some of the more common signs that you need an air conditioning replacement. We hope you will read through and give us a call with all of your air conditioning service questions.

Your System Is Old

When properly maintained, most air conditioning systems have an average lifespan of roughly 10 to 15 years, but if you have been putting off maintenance, or your system has had any serious mechanical issues in the past, that number could actually be a great deal lower. If your system is nearing the 10 year mark and you experience any kind of significant mechanical failure, it might be a more cost effective option to go ahead and start considering replacement options as opposed to investing more money into repairs for a system that is likely already nearing the end of its lifespan.

Frequent Breakdowns

While mechanical issues are bound to appear over time, if you notice that they tend to be appearing in your system more and more frequently in recent years, or the issues seem to be getting worse and worse as time goes on, no matter how much money you put into repairs, it is likely a sign of a much more serious mechanical failure, and when that's the case, replacement might be your better option. While it might seem drastic, you are likely to save yourself money in the long run by investing in a newer, more mechanically sound system that isn't going require constant repairs in order to keep your home cool.

Higher Energy Bills

While it isn't uncommon for energy bills to go up across the board during the summer, it is a good idea to keep a close eye out for bills that seem like they are going higher than usual, especially if your system usage isn't changing. If you notice that the costs to cool your home seem like they are continually going up, especially when compared to the previous year, it could indicate that your current system is in decline. At times like these, it is good to have your system inspected for any issues, but if your system is older, it is more likely the case that your system is just gradually wearing down. Investing in a replacement air conditioning system might cost you more upfront on repairs, but the money a newer system can save you when cooling your home can more than make up for it over time.
